Sacramento is getting ready for the 2025 Ironman California race.The triathlon will kick off Sunday in the American River and end at the State Capitol.There are already street closures across downtown Sacramento.The endurance event may still be days away, but crews are busy getting the course ready for the 3,000 athletes from all over the world who will be competing in Ironman. Detour signs and cones were up Wednesday along Capitol Mall.Organizers shut down streets Tuesday night to prepare for Sunday’s race, in which athletes will have 17 hours to complete a swim, bike, and running portion — for a total of 140 miles.Drivers should expect traffic delays because of detours already in place. The areas most impacted by the Ironman closures include Old Sacramento, downtown, Capitol Mall near the Tower Bridge and West Sacramento.On Wednesday, Capitol Mall from Third to Fifth Street will be closed, as well as Fourth Street from Capitol Mall to L Street. Don’t expect those roads to reopen until Monday at 5 p.m.Organizers said it’s all worth it to bring this world-class event to Sacramento and to give a big boost to the local economy.Keep in mind, the I Street Bridge 10-day closure is still in effect but should be wrapped up Thursday.
