A 13-year-old Long Beach girl accused of shooting to death a 16-year-old boy inside a Pomona apartment over the weekend was in custody on Monday, Nov. 24, authorities said.
The girl, whose name was not released because she is a minor, was arrested Sunday, Nov. 23, on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter, said Aly Mejia, spokeswoman for the Pomona Police Department.
The suspect and the victim likely knew each other, Mejia said.
It is unclear what prompted the shooting Sunday evening at an apartment in the 1300 block of Pasadena Street, where the victim lived, Mejia said. Police received a call at 5:22 p.m.
There were other people in the apartment at the time.
The boy died at the scene. The medical examiner’s office had not yet publicly identified him.
Police found the girl at the apartment and took her into custody. She is being held in a juvenile facility, Mejia said.
It wasn’t clear who owned the gun.
