BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — Reading Cinemas at Valley Plaza Mall has announced a significant transformation, enhancing the moviegoing experience with a multi-million-dollar renovation set to be completed in January 2026.
The renovations include heated leather recliner seating, upgraded screens (TITAN LUXE) and sound (DOLBY ATMOS), new menu items, and a membership program in two versions: free-to-join and a premium membership, offering rewards and discounts.
Officials said that the heated recliner seats in its IMAX auditorium make it the only IMAX screen with such seating within 100 miles of Bakersfield.
Additionally, a premium TITAN LUXE auditorium has been introduced, featuring a 4K DLP projector and DOLBY ATMOS audio system.
“Reading Cinemas is committed to bringing an elite cinematic experience to Bakersfield moviegoers,” stated in part, Jenny Sullivan, general manager.
Ticket prices for traditional seating have been reduced to $8.
A new food and beverage menu has been introduced, which includes:

Also new are adult beverages, such as “Boozy Icees,” ready-to-drink canned cocktails, splits and half-bottles of wine, and a variety of bottled beers.
Three theaters with new recliner seats are available, and five more are undergoing renovations, scheduled to open in January 2026.
