BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — In a WARN letter, it was announced that a roofing materials plant (GAF) in Shafter will cease operations on January 24, 2026, affecting 69 employees.
Building Materials Manufacturing LLC said it announced plans on Nov. 20, 2025, to close the “Shater Glass Mat Facility” on Zerker Road in Shafter. All employees at the facility will be impacted, as the closure of the plant is expected to be permanent.
AF produced a fiberglass substrate known as glass mat, which is an essential component in the manufacturing of rooftop shingles. They also offered commercial and waterproofing solutions.

There is no union representing employees at the facility. All employees have been notified, said a release.
