Fresno County is featured as a top destination in the 2025 special holiday issue of Food & Travel magazine.
The writeup highlights the “flavors, farms, and chefs that make our area the heart of California’s food story,” according to a social media post by Visit Fresno County.
The story is written by Tom Kane, publisher of Food & Travel Magazine. Kane is also a former songwriter, filmmaker and rapper under the stage name “Poverty.”
Kane recounts joining a group of other travel writers and influencers for a two-day culinary tour of Fresno County hosted by Visit Fresno County.
Kane shouts out several culinary destinations, events and suppliers, including the Vineyard Farmers Market, Westwoods BBQ & Spice Company (the best barbecue he’s had in California), Triple Delight Blueberries, Raphio Chocolate, Fresno Underground Suppers and the private “Cook It In Clovis Cook-Off” competition.
He said he sampled the food of local chefs including Daniel and Claire Skinner, Chef Robert Ortiz III, Chef Ross Verzosa and Robert W. Snyder III, former executive sous chef with The Elderberry House in Oakhurst.
The group visited with Ryan Jacobsen, president and CEO of the Fresno County Farm Bureau, who spoke about family farming and especially the local blueberry industry.
“In forty-eight hours, Fresno showed me its heart—in the arch of a redwood truss, in a jar of blood orange marmalade, in a blueberry picked by hand and eaten under the sun,” Kane wrote. “This place isn’t trying to reinvent itself. It’s reminding the world what sustains it.”
