Hollywood Hills struck with power outage last night that remains under investigation
In the middle of the night on Tuesday, the Hollywood Hills were struck by a large-scale power outage. Between the hours of midnight and 2 am, residences and businesses north of Ellington Drive, south of Yucca Street, east of the Hollywood (101) Freeway and west of Outpost Drive were affected, according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (DWP) spokeswoman Leah McKenzie.
The DWP said approximately 400 residents were temporarily affected by the power outage, although the outage map noted that 936 customers are without power. The cause of the outage was not immediately known and remains “under investigation,” according to McKenzie.
Hollywood Hills resident Dereck Andratti spoke with City News Service about the outage, which he experienced as he was driving home from Pasadena past the Hollywood Bowl. He said he saw very little lighting between Barham and Cahuenga boulevards. “Every street light is out. It’s pretty dangerous out here- it’s pitch black,” he said.
According to the DWP outage map, only one crew remains working on the outage in the Beverly Crest area. 16 customers remain out of power, which is estimated to be restored at 11:30 a.m.
A second outage was reported in Mar Vista Tuesday night, between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m., which noted 2,389 customers were without power. The DWP has since restored this outage.
