Bay Area Rapid Transit’s Civic Center station was evacuated and shut down Tuesday after a blown insulator sparked a fire and caused a lot of smoke in the area, officials said.

The incident prompted major delays on the San Francisco line in all directions. BART also said train service between the Montgomery and 24th St. Mission stations was impacted.

San Francisco Fire Department officials said crews responded around 11:30 a.m. to an electrical fire on the third rail. The fire was knocked down with a dry chemical extinguisher, fire officials said.

There were no injuries reported.

BART at around noon said it was reestablishing service through the Civic Center station. The transit agency said Yellow and Blue lines were also running on a single track.

Passengers were being informed about transfer details, BART said.
