BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Two drivers are severely injured after one of the drivers tried to pass another vehicle and collided head-on with a car on Highway 43 Tuesday morning.
The California Highway Patrol said on November 25, 2025, at around 9:22 a.m., officers were called to a call of a two-vehicle crash on Highway 43, south of Interstate 5.
CHP said a preliminary investigation found that a 31-year-old Bakersfield man was driving a 2006 Toyota Sienna southbound on Highway 43, south of Interstate 5, passing another vehicle.
At the same time, a 26-year-old Taft woman was driving a 2018 BMW X1 northbound on Highway 43, approaching the Toyota’s location.
According to CHP, witnesses stated the driver of the Toyota was traveling at an unsafe speed and making an unsafe pass on another vehicle when he collided head-on with the BMW.
The driver of the Toyota was ejected during the crash.
The driver of the BMW was pinned in her vehicle until rescued by the Kern County Fire Department.
Both drivers sustained severe injuries as a result of the crash.
