Oregon was once again dominated in the paint and it led to a historic shooting display by San Diego State.
SDSU shot 67.2% from the field, the highest by an opponent in the Dana Altman era, in a 97-80 thrashing of UO in the Players Era Festival Tuesday night at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas.
It is the 11th highest field goal percentage in a Division I game this season and highest allowed by a Power Five conference team. The only Power Five teams to allow a higher field goal percentage in a game last season were Miami (69.2% vs. SMU) and Penn State (67.3% vs. USC).
Reese Dixon-Waters scored 22 points to lead four players in double-figures for San Diego State, which dominated the paint (36-22) and glass (34-26).
A 12-0 run midway through the first half gave SDSU (3-2) the lead for good.
Jackson Shelstad scored 21, Kwame Evans Jr. had 16 points, five rebounds and five assists and Nate Bittle had 13 points for Oregon (4-2), which will face Creighton on Thursday (11 a.m., truTV).
The Ducks shot a season-high 42.9% from three, with Shelstad going 5 of 9, and made 18 of 22 free throws but it was not enough to keep the game competitive. UO shot just 38.2% from two-point range, including 27.8% in the second half.
Eight different players shot at least 50% from the field for San Diego State, which plays Baylor on Wednesday (7:30 p.m., truTV). BJ Davis scored 21 points, Magoon Gwath had 13 points and six rebounds and Elzie Harrington added 12 points and four assists.
