Re “California just keeps getting more expensive” (Nov. 25): The author, as well as many others who whine about the cost of living in California, don’t understand the Econ 101 concept of supply and demand.

California is a desirable place to live, regardless of its politics. Primarily it’s the comfortable climate made better by sucking the Colorado River dry. This is demand. On the supply side, there is a finite amount of land (which is being eroded away by sea level rise) and a dwindling amount of water, also because of the climate catastrophe.

For those who were comatose in class and/or are in denial, increased demand, particularly when coupled with decreasing supply, causes prices to go up.

Class dismissed.
