LONG BEACH, Miss. (WLOX) – Long Beach officials said someone has stolen Baby Jesus and Mary from the nativity scene at Harper McCaughan Town Green.
The theft follows another incident over the weekend when someone took a handcrafted Batman wooden figure from the city’s holiday display.
City officials said the stolen Batman wooden figure “takes away from the spirit we’re all working to build.”(Tina Ramon Bradley)
Long Beach Mayor Tim Pierce said the decorations are created for the community to enjoy and called the thefts disappointing and disheartening.
“We came out the other day, and everything was here but Batman. So somebody came and took Batman, and to come out here and see it’s gone is a little bit disturbing,” Pierce said. “Now, we do have camera footage, so we have turned that over to the police department to review.”
Pierce said if the items are returned, no charges will be filed.
“Whoever took it, and it’s probably kids, I hope, if they will just bring it back, there will be no questions asked, no charges filed. We just want everybody to enjoy our town green,” he said.
