Per a decade-long tradition in the East Bay, the regional park district is cheekily renaming the day after Thanksgiving “Green Friday.”
Instead of squabbling over TVs at the mall or scrolling through questionable clothing deals online, hit the trails, says the East Bay Regional Park District.
All entrance and parking fees will be waived, and some activities, like fishing and boat launching, will be free as well, on Friday, Nov. 28.
The district has also planned group activities, including in Oakland. Join a “hike amongst the trees” at 9 a.m. at Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park.
“This 5.25-mile hilly challenge will feed the soul as we dip down past small creeks and back up again, with redwoods, prairies, oak woodland, and mixed forest in between,” the district says.
No need to register — just show up at the Trudeau Training Center.
There are several other hikes, volunteer opportunities, and children’s activities at regional parks in other nearby cities, too. Some require registration.
There are 10 East Bay Regional Park District locations in Oakland, from Lake Temescal to Leona Canyon. Most have free entrance year-round.
