Man arrested for murder in connection with 2010 disappearance of Sacramento County woman

A Tennessee man was arrested for murder this month in connection with the disappearance of a woman in Sacramento County more than 15 years ago, according to the sheriff’s office. Lynda Haynie, of Antelope, was last seen on June 30, 2010, when she was 39 years old. According to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, she had messaged a friend that she was leaving, but gave no reason why. She left behind four children.The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said that in January of this year, detectives uncovered new information, shifting the case into a homicide investigation. Officials said it identified Jonathan Simpson, 62, of Maryville, Tennessee, as someone involved in Haynie’s disappearance. Detectives then carried out a search warrant at his residence. On Nov. 12, Simpson was taken into custody in Tennessee. He was then extradited back to Sacramento County. He faces charges of murder and conspiracy and is being held without bail. His next court date is set for Dec. 30.Investigators believe there may be additional subjects who were involved in Haynie’s death.
