Stockton police are investigating a homicide after a missing woman was found dead inside a vehicle Tuesday afternoon.
Officers were in the area of Lido Circle and Venetian Drive around 3 p.m. as part of a missing person’s investigation when they located the woman in a vehicle with apparent stab wounds, police said.
She was pronounced dead at the scene, and investigators later confirmed she was the person they were searching for. The woman’s name has not yet been released, but official said she was 31.
Homicide detectives responded and have since taken over the investigation. Police have not announced any suspect information or made any arrests.
Stockton police spokesperson Officer Omer Edhah said there doesn’t appear to be a larger threat to the surrounding community.
Edhah said the investigation remains ongoing, but the department is leaning “heavily on our community members, if they saw something, to say something.”
Pastor Kevin White of Crosstown Community Church went to the scene along Lido Circle on Wednesday to pay his respects. He and others have gone to recent homicide locations to pray.
“When a family sees something like this on the news, they say, ‘Oh, isn’t that a shame?’ But when your family’s gone through it, you’re like, ‘Oh, my God. Another family’s just been devastated and and your heart just goes out to them,’ ” White said.
Stockton police say the investigation is still in its early stages.
