Former church administrator dies

Echo Park—Members of the Echo Park United Methodist Church are mourning the death of longtime church administrator Danny Bernabe, who passed away on Nov. 18 at age 81. Bernabe served the congregation for many years, first alongside Pastor David Farley and later with Pastor Frank Wulf. Even after retiring due to health issues, he remained closely connected to the church and visited the office nearly every day until a stroke in 2024, said Wulf. A viewing and funeral service will be held on Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. at La Plaza United Methodist Church, 115 Paseo de la Plaza. Bernabe’s family has created a GoFundMe fundraiser to help cover funeral costs.

Former councilmember LaBonge honored

Hollywood—A new plaque honoring the late Councilman Tom LaBonge now hangs inside Musso & Frank Grill, replacing an earlier version that went missing from outside the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. LaBonge, a Silver Lake resident who represented L.A. Council District 4, was celebrated with a “Hollywood Community Plaque of Honor” presented by the Hollywood Historic Trust on Nov. 15. The organization chose the famed restaurant, a LaBonge favorite, as a safer permanent home for the plaque. “Tom loved the old school vibe of Mussos as a Hollywood institution,” said his wife,  Brigid, in a statement. “I’m so happy and it’s so great that this new plaque will live inside the walls of Tom’s beloved restaurant, Mussos.”
