IS THE MAIN COURSE. THE HYGIENE KITS. DO WE HAVE ANY MORE ON A COLD THANKSGIVING DAY? THANKFULNESS DOESN’T COME ONLY FROM WHAT’S ON THE TABLE. I LIKE YOUR SHIRT. HAPPY THANKSGIVING, BUT FROM THE PLACES WHERE KINDNESS IS SHARED. I AM A TITAN FAN. HAPPY THANKSGIVING! ON A DAY WHERE MOST ARE GATHERED AROUND THE TV WATCHING FOOTBALL FOR THE LAST 13 YEARS, JATINDER JOHAL AND ORGANIZATIONS HAVE MADE GIVING BACK THEIR THANKSGIVING TRADITION. WE DROVE FROM YUBA CITY TODAY. SOME OF OUR VOLUNTEERS DID. WE’VE NEVER MISSED A THURSDAY, RAIN OR SHINE, WE’RE ALWAYS THERE. YEAH. THANK YOU. PROBABLY LIKE 100. 200. YEAH. FROM WARM BLANKETS TO WARM WORDS. MORE THAN 200 PEOPLE WALKING AWAY. A BIT MORE THANKFUL. I’VE BEEN VOLUNTEERING SINCE I’VE BEEN A KID. WHETHER IT BE THIS ORGANIZATION OR ANOTHER ONE. MY PARENTS HAVE ALWAYS TAUGHT ME TO GIVE BACK TO SOCIETY, AND PEOPLE LIKE ME REALLY CAN’T AFFORD TO GET IT RIGHT NOW. EVEN THOUGH I JUST STARTED MY JOB AT AMAZON. IT’S JUST LIKE I’M STILL STRUGGLING TO BE HONEST WITH YOU. REGARDLESS IF WE DON’T HAVE OUR FAMILY NEAR US, THIS IS BASICALLY ANOTHER MEANING OF SOUL TRIBES OF OTHER PEOPLE JUST TO MAKE THEIR DAY JUST A SMILE, KNOWING THAT THEY’RE STILL WORTHY ENOUGH. PEOPLE THAT HAVE THEIR KIND HEARTS. THANK YOU. HAPPY THANKSGIVING! BECAUSE ON A DAY LIKE THIS ONE, A TRUE FEAST ISN’T MEASURED BY HOW MANY PLATES WE EAT, BUT HOW MUCH GRATITUDE WE SHARE WITH ONE ANOTHER. THAT MAKES ME WANT TO VOLUNTEER AND HELP GIVE BACK TO WHEN I GET ON MY FEET, OR EVEN IF I’M NOT EVEN TO START SOMEWHE

SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

On Thanksgiving Day in Sacramento, volunteers from Seva self-service and Khalsa Aid continued their yearly tradition of giving back to the community, offering warmth and kindness to those in need.

“We drove from Yuba City today. Some of our volunteers did,” said Jetender Johal, from Seva Self Service. “We’ve never missed a Thursday. Rain or shine, we’re always there.”

More than 200 people received warm blankets and warm words, leaving a bit more thankful. Herman Singh from Khalsa Aid shared his lifelong commitment to volunteering, saying, “I’ve been volunteering since I’ve been a kid, whether it be this organization or another one. My parents have always taught me to give back to society.”

The Thanksgiving drive started at 11 a.m. at the corner of Ahern St. & North B St. Singh said the line was already forming an hour prior to start time.

“On Thanksgiving, we have food. We’re giving out hot food, hygiene kits, toothbrushes, soap, a lot of clothes, a lot of brand new clothes. We have some, people donate clothes, socks, gloves, hand warmers. We have sleeping bags and blankets,” Singh shared.

Those items can mean the world to those who need them.

“People like me really can’t afford to get it right now. You know, I just started my job at Amazon, and I’m still struggling,” one recipient said.

Johal said they’ve seen the need growing over the years.

“Especially after 2020. I feel that’s when we kind of ramped it up more. Because of these circumstances, the need has grown so much, especially in this area,” Johal said.

One of the recipients noted that it’s not just the donated items that help keep them warm, but the act itself shows how caring the community is.

“To be honest with you, regardless if we don’t have a family near us. This is basically another meaning of soul tribes of other people, just to make their day, just a smile, knowing that they’re still worthy enough people to have their kind heart,” they said.

Seva Selfless Service has served more than 240,000 meals in the Sacramento area since 2012.
