Veterans are increasingly calling on Gov. Gavin Newsom to jumpstart the construction of Orange County’s first veterans cemetery – a yearslong endeavor that some local state legislators say could soon be pressured by legislation if needed.
The county’s neediest residents are grappling with increased food insecurity after a host of changes at the federal level – along with the shutdown – is impacting the amount of food stamps they’re getting.
It comes as volunteers across the county are stepping up to feed people as the holiday season starts, with some local food bank leaders noting the increased demand isn’t dropping anytime soon.

Meanwhile, two more Orange County municipalities grappled with city council vacancies – with Cypress going through a public application process, while Aliso Viejo went the opposite direction with a direct appointment process.
On Monday, the appointed Cypress City Councilman withdrew his name from the hat – leaving city council members to once again grapple with the vacancy at a 4 p.m. special meeting today.
Fullerton is looking to join a growing list of OC cities that have cracked down on whippet sales after elected officials moved forward on a proposed law banning retail sales, which could see violators face fines and jail time.
