ALAMEDA, CA — A beloved Bay Area bakery will be closing for good at the end of October.

Feel Good Bakery, known for its European-style breads, will be closing both locations in Alameda, the company announced on its website. The bakery’s last day will be Oct. 31, when it’ll be open until noon.

“This was not an easy decision, and it comes only after thoughtful consideration of all available options,” the bakery said via a notice on its website. “While this part of our journey comes to an end, the memories and relationships we’ve built will remain something we will always cherish.”

The idea behind Feel Good Bakery started when Rick Kellner decided to forego his vacation to Hawaii, instead choosing to attend the San Francisco Baking Institute, according to the company’s website. There, he learned more about the sourdough process, according to Feel Good Bakery.

Originally from New York, Kellner eventually resettled in the Bay Area, where he sought to start a bakery that focused on small-batch, hand-crafted European-style breads, according to the company.

In 2002, he started baking in his San Francisco apartment and partnered with local shops and restaurants to introduce his product to the Bay Area, according to the company. By 2004, the first Feel Good Bakery opened in Alameda’s Marketplace.

The company announced it will no longer be accepting pre-orders or online orders as it prepares to close by the end of the month. All products will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis, and any pre-orders placed before the announcement will be refunded, according to Feel Good Bakery.

“From all of us here at Feel Good Bakery, thank you for allowing us the opportunity to spread joy and celebration!” the company said on its website.
