Two people were found dead after an apparent murder-suicide at a La Habra restaurant Tuesday evening, authorities said.
Officers responded around 6:43 p.m. to reports of gunfire at Gui Gui Korean BBQ in the 1200 block of West Imperial Highway, according to the La Habra Police Department. Inside the restaurant, officers found a man and a woman suffering from significant injuries.
Paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department pronounced both dead at the scene.
The deceased have been identified as 45-year-old Jacqueline Medrano of Covina and 35-year-old Jonathan Wang of Long Beach.
Based on preliminary information, the shooting appears to be a murder-suicide, police said. Wang shot Medrano before he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said in a Wednesday statement. Investigators do not believe there are any outstanding suspects and said there is no known threat to the public.
The two had previously been in a romantic relationship, police said. In September, a criminal protective order had been issued by the Los Angeles Superior Court, prohibiting Wang from contacting Medrano. The order was still in place when Medrano was shot Tuesday.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information was asked to contact Detective N. Pineda at 562-383-4353.
Anyone experiencing or at risk of domestic violence can obtain help by calling the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-799-7233.
