FOWLER, Calif. (FOX26) — An investigation is underway after two people were found dead inside a Fowler home Wednesday night.

Officers were called to a home near Citrus and South avenues around 6:30 p.m. after a family member reported that a relative said he had shot his mother, planned to shoot the family’s dogs and then himself.

When officers arrived, they received no response at the door or by phone.

After several attempts to contact anyone inside, police entered the home and found an elderly woman and middle-aged man dead.

Police say they were related.

Their names have not been released.

Police said they used a drone provided by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office to safely search the home before entry, breaching windows with less-lethal beanbag rounds to allow the drone inside.

A Cal Fire helicopter was staged nearby for possible medical transport but was released after both victims were confirmed dead.

Officers also discovered animals inside the home that were dead.

Nearby residents were temporarily evacuated out of precaution but were later allowed to return once the scene was secured.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office has taken over the investigation.

The Fowler Police Department said the incident appears to be isolated and there is no threat to the surrounding neighborhood.
