The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday will consider a recommendation from Acting Chief Executive Joseph Nicchitta to authorize him to execute a proposed five-year lease agreement with Star View Behavioral Health Inc., for the continued use of 9,678 square feet of office space at the High Desert Mental Health Urgent Care Center.
The center, at 415 East Ave. I in Lancaster, opened in July 2021. The center is open 24 hours a day seven days a week. The center serves individuals ages 13 and older who are experiencing a psychiatric crisis.
The center is operated by Star View under contract with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health. The county entered into a lease with Star View in January 2021 to operate the center. The lease expired June 30, and Star View has been operating in holdover, according to a letter to the board from Nicchitta.
The proposed lease grants Star View a five-year term, with one five-year option to extend the proposed lease.
According to the proposed lease, Star View will pay a rental rate of $1.51 per square foot, or approximately $14,585 per month with annual increases of 3%, as well as paying all taxes, insurance premiums, utility charges, maintenance, repair and replacement expenses and all other costs, fees, charges, expenses, reimbursements and obligations of the property.
“The proposed Lease allows Star View to meet its obligations under the (Department of Mental Health) service contract and continue to serve the County as a (Psychiatric Urgent Care Center),” the letter said.
