LAS VEGAS – For the second year in a row, the San Diego State volleyball team had its season ended in the semifinals of the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Championship by Colorado State after dropping a 3-1 decision (25-18, 20-25, 18-25, 13-25) on Friday at The Pavilion on the UNLV campus.
Capturing the opening set, the sixth-seeded Aztecs (15-16) fought valiantly but were unable to keep pace with the No. 2 seed Rams (21-8), who hit .474 over the final two frames, knocking down 28 kills against only one attack error in 57 attempts to win going away.
As a result, Colorado State will face top-seeded Utah State (22-7) in the championship match on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 3 p.m. PT. The Aggies needed reverse sweep (3-2) to thwart an upset bid by fourth-seeded Boise State in Friday’s other semifinal contest.
Against the Rams, SDSU was led by Ella Schabort’s 11 kills, while Taylor Underwood launched 10 non-returnables of her own. With her performance, Underwood, a three-time all-MW honoree, finishes her illustrious Aztec career with 1,054 kills and 1,318 put-aways overall after spending her freshman season at DePaul in 2022.

SDSU used a strong 10-3 closing run to seize the opening frame.
