THIS IS A RESIDENTIAL AREA OF THE SHOOTING INVESTIGATION, AND NOW THERE’S SOME KIND OF INTERESTING PROTOCOLS THAT THEY’RE DOING RIGHT. THERE IS. ANDREA. SO WE ARE ON THE WEST END WHERE PEYTON’S AT. BUT HE SHARED THAT WHEN HE HEARD THE INITIAL SHOTS AROUND 6 P.M., HE THOUGHT THEY WERE FIREWORKS, AS WELL. AS PAYTON REPORTED EARLIER. SO HE SAID THAT THEY WERE FAIRLY LOUD TO WHERE HE WAS ABLE TO HEAR. I MEAN, JUST ON THE WEST END OF LUCILLE AVENUE. SO JUST IMAGINE THE MAGNITUDE OF THIS OF THESE SHOTS. BUT HE SAYS THIS IS A FAIRLY ACTIVE AREA OF LUCILLE AVENUE AND DAWN AVENUE. AND ALSO IT’S A NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH AREA AS WELL. FOUR OF THOSE PEOPLE HAVE DIED. AND RIGHT NOW WE DON’T HAVE ANY SPECIFIC AGES ON THESE VICTIMS. BUT WE DO KNOW THAT THE AGES RANGE FROM CHILDREN TO ADULTS. SO THERE WERE CHILDREN AT THIS GATHERING HERE, THE VICE MAYOR POSTED ON FACEBOOK, CALLING IT A CHILDREN’S BIRTHDAY PARTY. THAT WAS INSIDE OF THIS BANQUET HALL. SO REALLY DEVASTATING TO KNOW THAT THESE CHILDREN NOW KNOW FIRSTHAND THE IMPACTS OF GUN VIOLENCE. THEY’VE SEEN IT. THEY’VE EXPERIENCED IT. SOME OF THOSE CHILDREN, POTENTIALLY THE VICTIMS OF THIS EITHER SHOT OR DIED AS A RESULT OF THIS SHOOTING. I ASKED THE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE WHAT IT’S LIKE TO INVESTIGATE SOMETHING LIKE THIS. THIS IS WHAT THEY HAD TO SAY. IT IS UNFATHOMABLE THAT THERE ARE YOUNG CHILDREN WHO ARE HARMED, THAT THERE WAS ANYBODY WHO WAS HARMED IN THIS. AND OUR HEARTS GO OUT TO THOSE VICTIMS, TO THEIR FAMILIES AND TO OUR COMMUNITY. YEAH. SO AGAIN, A MASSIVE INVESTIGATION RIGHT NOW LOOKING TO FIND WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS. SO LOOKING AT THIS SCENE TO PAINT YOU A BIGGER PICTURE, IF YOU HAVEN’T BEEN ON THORNTON ROAD HERE, IT’S BOTH RESIDENTIAL AND THERE ARE BUSINESSES AS WELL ON BOTH STRETCHES OF THIS. AND THE GOOD NEWS ABOUT THAT IS THAT THERE IS A LOT OF SURVEILLANCE VIDEO THAT COULD HELP INVESTIGATORS IN THIS SEARCH FOR THE SUSPECT AND REALLY FIGURING OUT WHAT HAPPENED, WHAT COULD ALSO HELP IN THIS INVESTIGATION IS THAT THERE WERE LIKELY DOZENS OF PEOPLE INSIDE OF THIS BANQUET HALL. AGAIN, WE KNOW THAT 14 PEOPLE WERE SHOT. FOUR OF THOSE PEOPLE DIED. AND LIKELY THOSE PEOPLE WILL BE ABLE TO GIVE INFORMATION TO OFFICIALS ABOUT WHAT UNFOLDED, HOW IT ALL HAPPENED AND WHO IS RESPONSIBLE RIGHT NOW. SO JUST A LONG, LONG TIME FOR GUNFIRE TO BE GOING, ESPECIALLY IN FRONT OF CHILDREN, IN FRONT OF FAMILIES WHO HAD BEEN CELEBRATING INSIDE OF THIS BANQUET HALL. Four people are dead and 10 others were taken to the hospital after a mass shooting in San Joaquin County Saturday that investigators believe was targeted, according to the sheriff’s office. Heather Brent, a San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, said the shooting took place just before 6 p.m. at a banquet hall in the 1900 block of Lucile Avenue in Stockton. There was a family gathering happening there at the time of the shooting. Vice Mayor Jason Lee described the event as a birthday party. The suspect is still at large and the shooting is still under investigation, the sheriff’s office confirmed. The age of victims ranges from children to adults. (Video below: What we know so far.)The Stockton Police Department, Manteca Police Department and the FBI are also involved in the investigation. California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s press office released a statement on social media, describing the shooting as “horrific.” Lee, the Stockton vice mayor, also reacted to the shooting with a statement. “Tonight, my heart is heavy in a way that’s hard to put into words. As Vice Mayor of Stockton — and as someone who grew up in this community — I am devastated,” Lee’s statement read in part. San Joaquin County District Attorney Ron Freitas said, “A tragedy of this nature is unthinkable and it absolutely breaks our heart to have the loss of life and to have the loss of life to children in our community.” He called for the person responsible for the shooting to turn themself in.(Video player below: Stockton mayor, DA speak out after mass shooting)Stockton Mayor Christina Fugazi noted Thanksgiving weekend is “when families come together to celebrate, share memories, give each other love. Stockton is better than this.” Fugazi said the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office will lead the investigation since it happened in the county’s jurisdiction.She urged people with information to call Crime Stoppers at (209) 946-0600. “Families should be together instead of at the hospital standing next to their loved one, praying that they survived,” she saidSeveral neighbors told KCRA’s Peyton Headlee that the gunfire appeared to sound like it was coming from multiple locations. When Headlee first arrived to the scene, there was a large group of people speaking with officers but it is unclear if they were witnesses or were in the banquet hall during the shooting. STOCKTON, Calif. —
Four people are dead and 10 others were taken to the hospital after a mass shooting in San Joaquin County Saturday that investigators believe was targeted, according to the sheriff’s office.
Heather Brent, a San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, said the shooting took place just before 6 p.m. at a banquet hall in the 1900 block of Lucile Avenue in Stockton. There was a family gathering happening there at the time of the shooting. Vice Mayor Jason Lee described the event as a birthday party.
The suspect is still at large and the shooting is still under investigation, the sheriff’s office confirmed. The age of victims ranges from children to adults.

The Stockton Police Department, Manteca Police Department and the FBI are also involved in the investigation.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s press office released a statement on social media, describing the shooting as “horrific.”

Lee, the Stockton vice mayor, also reacted to the shooting with a statement.
“Tonight, my heart is heavy in a way that’s hard to put into words. As Vice Mayor of Stockton — and as someone who grew up in this community — I am devastated,” Lee’s statement read in part.
San Joaquin County District Attorney Ron Freitas said, “A tragedy of this nature is unthinkable and it absolutely breaks our heart to have the loss of life and to have the loss of life to children in our community.”
He called for the person responsible for the shooting to turn themself in.

Stockton Mayor Christina Fugazi noted Thanksgiving weekend is “when families come together to celebrate, share memories, give each other love. And unfortunately tonight heaven is a little bigger with the individuals, children and adults, that unfortunately did not make it. Stockton is better than this.”
Fugazi said the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office will lead the investigation since it happened in the county’s jurisdiction.
She urged people with information to call Crime Stoppers at (209) 946-0600.
“Families should be together instead of at the hospital standing next to their loved one, praying that they survived,” she said
Several neighbors told KCRA’s Peyton Headlee that the gunfire appeared to sound like it was coming from multiple locations. When Headlee first arrived to the scene, there was a large group of people speaking with officers but it is unclear if they were witnesses or were in the banquet hall during the shooting.
