Noelani Cornfield had 22 points, nine assists, four steals, six rebounds to lead Arizona to a 78-63 win over Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday at McKale Center, moving the Wildcats to 6-0.

Cornfield hit 7 of 12 shots from the field and made all eight free throws she took, while Micky Perdue added 14 points on 5-for-9 shooting.

While the Wildcats shot 50.0% and held the Roadrunners to 33.8% shooting, UA equaled Bakersfield’s 20 turnovers and were outrebounded 37-34.

Arizona pulled ahead of Cal State Bakersfield early, taking a 22-13 lead at the end of the first quarter while holding the Roadrunners to 31.3% shooting, including just 1 of 8 from 3-point range.

But Bakersfield played UA evenly from there, outscoring the Wildcats 14-13 in the second quarter. While UA led 35-27 at halftime, when Cornfield already had 10 points, Bakersfield cut UA’s lead to just six points when Tena Ikidi converted a three-point play with 9:34 left.

Still, UA led by double digits in most of the third quarter and then went on an 8-0 run late in the fourth to take a 76-60 lead when Cornfield picked up her own blocked shot and put it back with 1:37 left.
