A thick veil of fog clings to the Sacramento Valley this morning, muting headlights and blurring the skyline as December’s first chill settles in. The air feels damp and still, with visibility dropping sharply across stretches of Interstate 5, Highway 99, and local connector routes. The National Weather Service in Sacramento warns that dense fog will persist through 9 a.m., creating slick conditions and reducing visibility to a quarter mile or less in some areas.
Commuters and travelers returning from the Thanksgiving weekend should use caution. Slow down, increase following distance, and avoid using high beams, which only worsen glare in dense fog. Once the fog lifts late morning, skies will gradually brighten into partly sunny conditions, with highs near 50°F.
The pattern stays quiet through the start of the new week. Monday brings gradual clearing, and by Tuesday and Wednesday, the Sacramento area will enjoy milder afternoons, reaching highs in the upper 50s to near 60°F. Nights remain cool and damp, however, with lows around 40°F — enough for patchy early frost in outlying communities.
Late-week conditions continue stable, with plenty of sunshine and calm winds. While no rain is in sight for Northern California through Saturday, fog formation will stay likely during the early morning hours, particularly near waterways and low-lying valleys.
