With prolonged power droughts, just 25 homers and an OPS just over .800, Fernando Tatis Jr.’s 2025 season underwhelmed to some degree for a bat of his stature.
The glove, however, did not disappoint. The 26-year-old right fielder was named a finalist for a second Gold Glove on Wednesday alongside the Diamondbacks’ Corbin Carroll and the Brewers’ Sal Frelick.

Tatis won his first Gold Glove in 2023 in his first full year in right field, when he was also named the NL’s Platinum Glove winner as his league’s best overall defender.
Tatis led all NL defenders that year with 27 total runs saved, according to Sports Info Solutions.
This year, Tatis was tied for second among right fielders with Boston’s Wilyer Abreu with 15, behind only the Rangers’ Adolis Garcia (16).
Frelick was fifth with nine defensive runs saved, while Carroll had eight.
The SABR Defensive Index’s website, which is used to help determine Gold Glove and Platinum Glove winners, only lists its ratings through Aug. 10. Tatis at that point led all NL right fielders with a score of 15.3. Frelick was second with 6.3 and Carroll was fourth with 4.4.
Tatis also recorded 12 assists in 2023, third among NL outfielders that year. That number dropped to five this year, largely because of the reputation of Tatis’ right arm. That said, his highlight reel plays in 2025 included robbing at least four home runs.
Defense is also a component of WAR and Tatis ranking 10th in the majors with 6.1 — his second six-win season — had a great deal to do with his defense.
