A dry storm system sweeping into Southwest California is expected to deliver several days of strong winds and bitterly cold temperatures across Los Angeles and Ventura counties this week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
Forecasters say the system will produce widespread gusty conditions, particularly in the Antelope Valley, interior valleys and mountain areas, along with overnight lows that will fall near or below freezing across inland communities through Friday morning.
Winds are expected to ramp up early Monday, with gusts reaching about 45 miles per hour in coastal and valley areas and around 35 miles per hour along the Malibu coast, according to the NWS. Stronger gusts, up to 50 miles per hour, are forecast across the San Gabriel and Santa Susana mountains.
After a brief lull, forecasters warn that winds could intensify again midweek. On Wednesday and Thursday, the mountains could see gusts up to 55 miles per hour, while coastal and valley areas may experience gusts between 35 and 45 miles per hour.
The agency notes that such conditions may create difficult driving for high-profile vehicles, blow away unsecured outdoor items, damage temporary structures, and bring down tree limbs.

Temperatures will drop sharply once the winds subside each night. The coldest mornings are expected Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, when parts of the interior, especially the Antelope Valley, may see readings near or below freezing. The NWS warns of potential damage to sensitive crops and plants and a moderate risk of hypothermia for unsheltered people and animals.
A mid-week storm system is expected to bring a chance of rain and mountain snow to Los Angeles and Ventura counties Wednesday and Thursday, along with gusty winds and colder temperatures across the region next week. (NWS)
