With another 3-point night against the Henderson Silver Knights, Bakersfield’s Quinn Hutson continues his strong season in the AHL.
Oilers’ prospect shows versatility and skill
Quinn’s scored one of his goals on the powerplay and he other 5v5 to give Bakersfield a 3-0 lead against Henderson.
On the season, however, Hutson has 10G and 9A in 18 games, of which 16 have come in the last 8-games. That is an impressive heater.
As a result of his strong play, he sits 2nd in points in the AHL rookie scoring race, and is in contention for the Dudley “Red” Garrett Memorial Award for Rookie of the Year.
Not bad for the Hutson family. His brother Lane won the Calder last year for the NHL’s ROY counterpart.
Quinn has recorded three or more points in four of his last eight games. With these numbers and his ability to drive his team’s offense, he will looked at for a promotion to the NHL.
With Edmonton desperately needing wins, and with injurie to key players, it may not be long before we see him in an Oilers’ jersey.
Kris Knoblauch has been conservative with his rookies this season, opting to play them in roles ill-suited to their abilities. Hutson could be the exception, as the Oilers require secondary offense, an area that has been lacking.
The next few games will be telling for Quinn Hutson; if he continues to post elite numbers, Knoblauch may not have a choice but to call him up.
Before the season began, Hutson was rated the 10th-best in the Oilers’ prospect pool. As of today, he is without a doubt in the top-3.
