A domestic violence call in Sacramento led to a standoff after a man fired a shot at a deputy and later died by suicide, officials said.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A domestic violence call in Sacramento on Monday led to a large police presence and road closures after a man who had left the scene fired a shot at a Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputy.

The incident started near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and 44th Avenue. The Sheriff’s Office said the man fired at least one round in the deputy’s direction, though the deputy was not hit and did not fire back.

Law enforcement blocked off several streets surrounding the scene as the situation unfolded. The Highway 99 southbound off-ramp to 47th Avenue is also shut down, and drivers are advised to use alternate routes.

The man was later found inside a mobile home park nearby, where he barricaded himself. Authorities said he was armed and making threats.

Specialized units, including negotiators and a tactical team, responded as efforts continued to reach a peaceful resolution.

The standoff ended when officials confirmed the man died by suicide inside the home.

No shots were fired by deputies during the standoff, and no one else was injured.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
