BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — UPDATE (12/1/2025): California Highway Patrol confirmed Monday morning that officer-involved shooting took place on Highway 99 near Mountain Boulevard following a police pursuit.
The CHP said that was a pursuit starting with Wasco, during which Wasco Police requested CHP to assist them with a spike and eventually taking over the pursuit in the area around Ming or California Avenue.
Highway patrol says the suspected driver in a SUV fired shots while officers were in pursuit.
At around Bear Mountain Blvd, CHP says their units conducted a successful spike with the suspect’s vehicle, where they eventually pulled to the shoulder.
Highway Patrol says that’s when the suspect got out of his vehicle fired at the officers, during which the officers fired back.
Officers took immediately took custody of the suspect and provided medical care.
Medical services arrived on scene, the suspect later succumbed to his injuries.
No other injuries were reported.
CHP says there is no estimated time for reopening, and drivers should find another route.
