In 2024, Simon and Eric Cheung took their family business Hing Lung Company to Bernal Heights and branched out with pandemic-born spinoff Go Duck Yourself. The latter’s menu reflects not just the family’s history in Hong Kong, but all the excellent produce in Northern California. That means decadent duck, well-sourced rice, and espresso soft serve from grass-fed cows at maybe the neighborhood’s most dynamic opening in years.
The interior is all black, little pipes exposed, and big birds hanging in the back while flames leap from the range. Service is attentive without being overbearing, and certainly not stuffy. Walking in works here.
Parking in Bernal Heights can be a pain. The 67 Muni bus goes right over the Cortland Avenue hump. Moreover, a stop at Black Jet Bakery afterwards is a smart sweet pitstop, or for a nip of coffee to stave off the food coma.
