A Southern California resident received an unexpected surprise last week when he discovered a 500-pound bear living beneath his home, according to local reports.
Ken Johnson first became suspicious after noticing items around his Altadena property knocked over or damaged.
He set up surveillance cameras, and the footage soon revealed a massive bear squeezing into the crawl space under his house.
“It was really big. I’ve seen him before, but he was going through the trash and then the next morning he’s coming out from underneath my house,” Johnson told KTLA.
Johnson said he had seen the bear every day since. The situation escalated on Friday when he attempted to change the camera batteries.
“I went around to put batteries in the camera, and this huge growl comes from under the crawl space and I just went running,” he told NBC LA. “I mean, it was the most amazing roar you’ve ever heard. Like a lion with a hiss on top of it.”
Johnson told Storyful he had filled out a form for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and law enforcement advised him to stay indoors.
