Troy Huhn decommitted from Penn State in October, days after coach James Franklin was fired amid a disappointing start to the college football season.
Franklin is back in college football, the new coach at Virginia Tech. And now Huhn is back with Franklin.
Mission Hills High School’s star quarterback verbally committed to the Hokies on Monday during a live segment on CBS Sports Network’s college football YouTube channel. Huhn becomes one of the biggest stars of Franklin’s first recruiting class in Blacksburg. The verbal vow comes less than two hours before football’s signing day, which is Wednesday.
Huhn thanked his family, teammates and coaches before announcing his college choice.
“Go Hokies!” he said, before removing a zip-up jacket to reveal a Virginia Tech T-shirt.
A 6-foot-4, 215-pound senior, Huhn was rated by ESPN as the top uncommitted quarterback in the 2026 recruiting class. He threw for 2,438 yards and 29 touchdowns for the Grizzlies, who fell to Cathedral Catholic in last month’s CIF San Diego Section Open Division semifinals.
Cathedral Catholic’s quarterback also recently swapped college commitments. Brady Palmer picked Minnesota last week, shortly after decommitting from Cal in the wake of coach Justin Wilcox’s firing. A third quarterback, Bishop’s senior Cash Herrera, visited Boise State late last month after decommitting from Indiana.
