BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — A driver was arrested Sunday for alleged DUI after crashing through a fence and into a canal in East Bakersfield early Sunday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The incident happened on Nov. 28, at around 12:28 a.m., when officers attempted to stop the driver of a Nissan Sentra traveling at high speeds near Steele Avenue. The driver failed to pull over, leading to a pursuit.

The chase ended when the Nissan crashed into a chain link fence and plunged into a canal at Lake Street and Williams Street.

An unidentified 24-year-old male driver was arrested for felony evasion and driving under the influence of alcohol. He received treatment for injuries at Kern Medical before being taken into custody.
