Kayla, the female white rhino at the Fresno Chaffee Zoo, just had her fifth baby on Friday.
Kayla and the new female calf are in good health and under the care of the zoo’s Animal Care and Veterinary teams.
“We are thrilled to welcome another rhino calf to Fresno Chaffee Zoo,” said General Curator Nicole Presley.
“Kayla is an experienced mother and, as expected, is doing an exceptional job.” Presley continued.
This marks the fifth calf for Kayla and male rhino Tim.
Southern white rhinos are classified as “near threatened” by the IUCN Red List, and the zoo is proud to contribute to conservation efforts.
Kayla and her calf will remain behind the scenes before their public debut in the African Adventure’s savanna.
