Sarah Beckstrom, 20, of Summerville, died on Thanksgiving Day after she and 24-year-old Andy Wolfe of Martinsburg were shot Wednesday afternoon while on patrol outside the entrance to the Farragut West Metro station at 17th & I Street in Northwest Washington.

At a Monday press conference, West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey said that although Wolfe was in “serious condition,” there were some positive signs.

“We were told that Andrew was asked if he could hear the nurse who asked the question, to give a thumbs up,” Morrisey said. “And he did respond. We were told that he also wiggled his toes, so we take that as a positive sign.”

Morrisey said Wolfe’s mother, Melody, is asking everyone to pray for her son.

The suspect in the shooting, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, was shot while allegedly committing the attack, but is expected to survive. As of Monday, he had still not appeared in federal court.
