White Forest Nursery, a family-owned business in East Bakersfield, has been selling Christmas trees for over 70 years. Co-owner Jere White shared insights into the variety of trees available, including Douglas firs and Noble firs. “The Douglas firs are cultivated, sheared, and tight, so they’re very bushy,” White said.
However, he noted that their lighter branches might not support heavy ornaments. In contrast, the noble firs and Nordman firs have heavier branches, reminiscent of traditional trees from decades past. These trees are sustainably cultivated in Oregon and Washington, ensuring they last longer.

White Forest Nursery also offers live spruce trees that can be used year after year. “These are trees that will grow well in this area,” White explained. They are more heat-tolerant and grow about a foot to a foot and a half each year. Customers can keep them in containers and reuse them for several years.
For those interested in a frosted look, the nursery provides flocked trees. “The nice thing about the flock trees, it actually acts as a preservative,” White said, adding that they can maintain their appearance even if the tree turns brown.
In addition to trees, the nursery offers poinsettia plants, which are popular for holiday decor. White advised that they last a couple of months with proper watering.
