LONG BEACH, CA — What began as a simple call of help turned into a remarkable display of community unity and compassion.
When Dr. Manorama Gupta, President of the Global Peace Foundation organized a drive to collect gently used clothes and blankets for those in need in Long Beach, the community responded generously, donating clothing for men, women, and children, along with several dozen blankets, filling more than 25 oversized garden bags.
The collected items were distributed at Martin Luther King Park on November 23. Volunteers set up four large tables laden with clothing, replenished multiple times throughout the day, ensuring that everyone who came could find what they needed.
About 200 individuals and families attended, many carrying bags, while children helped sort items. Volunteers worked side by side with attendees, creating an atmosphere of warmth and giving that embodied the spirit of the season.
“These donations are more than just clothes,” said Dr. Gupta. “They are reminders that no one in our community is alone. Every jacket, every sweater, every blanket carries hope and dignity for someone who needs it.”
Organizers expressed deep gratitude to everyone who contributed, noting that acts of kindness like this strengthen the bonds of community. They hope the impact of the event inspires continued generosity through the holidays and into the New Year.
