Flu Season Update
Last year was the most severe flu season in over a decade in the United States. And this year, a new strain of the flu is fueling concerns of another rough winter. Today on Insight, we’ll talk with Dr. Dean Blumberg from UC Davis about what we need to know about the flu and other respiratory viruses as we head into the colder months.
Sacramento’s Refugees and Asylum Seekers
Pres. Donald Trump has made strict enforcement of immigration, refugee programs and asylum seekers a priority during his second administration. Those efforts increased last week following a shooting in Washington D.C. that killed one member of the National Guard. The suspected gunman was identified as an Afghan national who was granted asylum earlier this year. Jessie Mabry, CEO of the nonprofit Opening Doors, and board member Khoban Kochai-Ahmad talk about how these decisions are affecting people here in Sacramento, which is home to one of the largest Afghan communities in the country.
‘Yosemite Wildlife’
Did you know more than 150 animal species call Yosemite Valley home? “Yosemite Wildlife: The Wonder of Animal Life in California’s Sierra Nevada” is the first comprehensive book in more than 100 years dedicated to the creatures that reside there. Beth Pratt is a wildlife advocate, conservationist and the author behind the new book, which came out in October. She’s speaking Monday, Dec. 8 at Capitol Books in Sacramento and she joins us today.
