PACIFIC BEACH – Plans are underway to renovate the retail space previously occupied by Union Kitchen & Tap in Pacific Beach, transforming it into something entirely new — Coco Fuego, a Caribbean-inspired restaurant and bar.
Grind & Prosper Hospitality, led by restaurateur Pete Cich, is set to move into 832 Garnet Ave. after the renovation is completed sometime in 2026. The new restaurant concept is inspired by the tropical, high-energy DNA of the restaurant group’s Little Italy hotspot, Coco Maya.
Grind & Prosper Hospitality group presently includes Miss B’s Coconut Club on Mission Boulevard as well as Coco Maya on India Street and Louisiana Purchase on University Avenue in North Park. Coco Fuego will be located in a well-worn site known for revolving tenants, which has included Moondoggies and Backyard Kitchen & Tap.
Coco Fuego will bring Grind & Prosper’s signature Caribbean-Latin fusion aesthetic to PB, with a menu and atmosphere expected to echo Coco Maya’s Tulum-meets-San-Diego vibe. The new stylish eatery will feature coal-fired cooking, rum-forward cocktails, lush greenery, and immersive design elements that blur the line between dining and escapism.
This latest venture adds to Grind & Prosper’s expanding local footprint, which also includes PB Shore Club and Haole Shack in Pacific Beach. The group is also nearing the debut of its highly anticipated restaurant, Austin NoLa in North Park, a 2,800-square-foot New Orleans-inspired project headed by Grind & Prosper partner and executive chef Quinnton Austin.
Grind & Prosper has a track record of transforming neighborhood spaces into destination-level eateries and social hubs, with the popularity of Coco Maya and Miss B’s Coconut Club drawing constant crowds.
