A team of volunteers from the Piedmont Beautification Foundation and the Piedmont Garden Club gathered at Community Hall on Tuesday morning to give an assist to the Department of Public Works as they strung up lights on the 80-foot coast redwood tree — the focal point of the annual Lights Up, Piedmont! event taking place on Wednesday.

This year’s Dec. 3 event will start at 6 p.m to better accommodate young attendees. Festivities take place in front of Piedmont Community Hall and will feature the illumination of the redwood tree and a cappella serenades by Piedmont High School’s Troubadours, the lighting of a menorah concurrently with the tree, and inclusive, seasonal activities for all ages coordinated by the Piedmont Recreation Department.

The Piedmont Beautification Foundation is a nonprofit founded by the Piedmont Garden Club in 1964 to raise funds to help the city sustain Piedmont’s parks and green spaces. PBF maintains, installs and removes the colorful LED lights each year.Â
