SAN FRANCISCO – A student at a San Francisco high school was shot, and the alleged shooter was arrested Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

What we know:
Supervisor Jackie Fielder said the injured boy attends Burton High School and was shot in the leg on campus. He is in stable condition, she said.
“Every child deserves to feel safe at school and in their communities. We can never accept senseless violence that disrupts any student’s wellbeing and pursuit of their education,” Fielder said.
San Francisco police said officers were able to identify and arrest the juvenile shooter within hours of the shooting.
Authorities would not go into detail about the alleged shooter nor would they disclose whether they were also a student at the high school.
The San Francisco Fire Department said it received a call reporting a gunshot wound at 400 Mansell Street, the address of the school. The victim was transported at 12:30 p.m. to a local hospital.
San Francisco Unified Superintendent Maria Su said the school immediately went into lockdown mode, and that staff were able to isolate the area where the shooting took place. However, police said the shooter was able to flee. The juvenile suspect was arrested a mile away.
Police said a firearm was recovered.
Su said classes continued throughout the afternoon.
Mayor Daniel Lurie echoed Sup. Fielder’s sentiments and said, “Students deserve to be safe in their classrooms every day, and parents should know their children will get home safe at the end of the day.” The mayor said he’s grateful everyone is now safe and thanked the police for their quick response. He offered the support of his administration to the school community.
