ARVADA, Colo. (WKRC) – A man was arrested after his mother was allegedly discovered with “maggots burrowing into her body” and a “loosely connected wrist” while still alive in the garage of an Airbnb.

Authorities were dispatched to an Airbnb on April 29 regarding a “sick person,” according to a release from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. First responders reportedly discovered 58-year-old Sheryl Seitz on an air mattress in the garage of the Airbnb residence barely clinging to life.

Sheryl, who already suffered from a medical condition that prevented her from being able to walk or care for herself, was discovered “covered in filth in maggots,” per the release.

“Sheryl was suffering from bed sores, two hip fractures, a ‘loosely connected wrist,’ ulcers, septic shock and maggots burrowing into her body when she arrived [at the hospital],” the release said. She reportedly died in the hospital on April 30.

Authorities arrested Sheryl’s two caregivers in connection to her death: her 38-year-old son, Brian Seitz, and his 55-year-old girlfriend, Laura Prats.

Before residing in the Airbnb, Sheryl allegedly lived in an RV that did not have running water or a bed. She was placed under the care of Brian and Prats due to her condition roughly six or seven years before her death, and both suspects received state funding for her care for 83 hours a week, the release said.
