WASHINGTON (TNND) — House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan on Wednesday subpoenaed former Special Counsel Jack Smith about his investigations of President Donald Trump, with Jordan demanding all documents and communications from Smith’s tenure.
Smith is required to appear for a deposition at the U.S. Capitol on December 17 at 10 a.m.
“The Committee on the Judiciary is continuing to conduct oversight of the operations of the Office of Special Counsel you led — specifically your team’s prosecutions of President Donald Trump and his co-defendants,” Jordan wrote to Smith in a letter dated December 3.
“Due to your service as Special Counsel, the Committee believes that you possess information that is vital to its oversight of this matter,” Jordan added. “Based upon communications with your counsel, we understand that you are available to testify at a deposition on December 17, 2025. Accordingly, please find enclosed a testimonial subpoena for a deposition at 10 a.m. … and a document subpoena for the requested materials to be produced to the Committee by December 12, 2025.”
According to Fox News, the deposition will be held behind closed doors.

The news comes as Republicans in both chambers escalate their criticism of Smith’s election-related investigation of Trump, arguing it became an overreach that included GOP lawmakers, party groups, Trump allies, and media outlets.
