EXCLUSIVE: Sacramento and The Astronaut producer The Wonder Company is set to adapt Jaden Payne’s murder mystery novel There Are 3 Women & 4 Men after optioning the film rights from the emerging U.S. author.
The novel, set in 1970s London and Boston, follows the story of an eccentric art curator, Laurent Fontaine, who invites six lucky guests to the grand re-opening of his famous art museum for a private showing. Things go from bad to worse when the guests start to realize this entire experience has actually been designed for the greatest discovery of all: one of them murdered Fontaine’s wife and he intends to find out who.
Payne’s debut novel gathered some traction on TikTok earlier this year due to Payne’s grassroots marketing, with videos about the book amassing close to 10 million views in one month.
Eric B Fleischman and Chris Abernathy will produce for The Wonder Company.
The producers said: “We actually found the book on TikTok and have since been enamored by Payne’s style of writing and the twists and turns he’s woven into this thrilling whodunnit. It’s very much Willy Wonka meets Knives Out.”
Commented Payne: “From the moment I wrote the first chapter, I couldn’t help but imagine these characters on the big screen. It’s an absolute dream-come-true to get to this point, and I’m super excited to get to work with everyone at the Wonder Company to bring the Fontaine Museum of Art to life!”
Payne is a writer, designer, and filmmaker who has made multiple shorts that he has posted on Youtube. He is repped by WME.
