BERKELEY, CA — Police say they found weapons and drugs in the car of a man who a bartender believed was trying to follow her home early Saturday morning.
The bartender had just gotten off her shift in San Francisco and was on her way home when she noticed a driver was following her, the Berkeley Police Department said.
She got off the freeway in Berkeley to see if the driver would still follow her, and they did, police said.
The bartender called the Berkeley Police Department, whose dispatchers directed her to drive towards the station, authorities said.
The driver continued following her all the way to the station where officers were waiting for them, police said.
Officers went towards the driver’s car and saw that he had a loaded handgun inside, police said, adding that they quickly took him into custody. He was identified by police only as a 36-year-old San Francisco man.
While searching the man’s car, officers found crack cocaine, several crack pipes, a flashlight taser, gloves, a BB gun and a gun that had been stolen from somewhere in Richmond, police said.
It’s unclear exactly what charges the man may face. Police say he was arrested on suspicion of several weapon and drug-related offenses.
“Cases like this are prime examples of why trusting your instincts matters,” police said in a statement Tuesday morning. “We are grateful for our dispatchers and officers whose quick actions got this woman home safely and the suspect into custody.”
