STOCKTON, Calif. – Entering the month of December, the Pacific women’s basketball program ends a five game homestand on Thursday at 6 p.m. when the team hosts Sacramento State at the Alex G. Spanos Center before jaunting down to San Diego State on Sunday to face the Aztecs at 1 p.m. in Viejas Arena.

Thursday’s matchup with Sac State (5-4) breaks a span of more than a decade between meetings as the last time the Tigers (3-4) and Hornets met on the court was during the 2014-15 WNIT Postseason Tournament in which Sac State won 87-79. Up until the long layover Pacific had dominated the series history, especially at home, racking up a 10-1 record in Stockton and a 14-7 record in the all-time series.

Sophomore Winner Bartholomew upped her season scoring average to 12.7 points per game going into the week’s contests after leading the team in scoring both games at the Tiger Turkey Tipoff.

Behind Bartholomew it was junior Nyah Lowery and senior Luisa Anderegg who provided big boosts off the bench to help propel the team – each setting a personal best scoring against division one competition.

The two schools have faced, or will face, several overlapping teams during the non-conference with both schools having already seen UC San Diego, Cal Baptist, California, and Cal State Fullerton.

Both schools suffered defeats to CBU and Cal while both defeating UCSD. Sac State did beat Cal St. Fullerton. Pacific has yet to face Nevada, a school the Hornets beat, and both still have matchups to come against D-II Simpson and WCC foe San Francisco.

Sunday meanwhile is the first matchup with the Aztecs (4-3) since 1990, restarting a series currently deadlocked at five wins apiece. San Diego State holds a slight 3-2 lead playing on its home court but has lost the last three games, including that 1990 matchup in San Diego. Despite the long layoff, Pacific and SDSU used to be yearly foes after sharing four seasons together in the Big West.

Two key indicators for Pacific’s success will be how well it values the ball and how strong the block is. Against Milwaukee and Jax State, the team committed 13 and 11 turnovers respectively – the fewest turnovers Pacific has committed all season. In the latter of those two matchups, Pacific swatted a season high six blocks, five of whom came from the hand of junior Marina Radocaj.

Her five blocks join senior Sydney Ward for the seventh most single game in program history, tied for 22nd national this season in single game blocks and put her just five blocks away from joining the record book in career blocks at Pacific. On the national stage she ranks top-100 in the country in both total blocks and blocks per game.

On the other side, San Diego State comes into the match fully rested after not having played since November 24 against Penn State in the Bahamas.

Thursday will be streamed on ESPN+ while Sunday will be shown on the Mountain West Network.
