When the various seasonal festivities conclude later this month, Long Beach residents will be able to drop off their holiday trees as part of the City’s Holiday Treecycling service.
Over a two-week period, used trees can be dropped off for free at 13 locations citywide, courtesy of the Long Beach Energy and Environmental Services Department. Live trees and flocked trees will be accepted, but artificial trees will not.
Treecycling not only ensures proper disposal, but aims to lessen the amount of illegally dumped trees as well as prevent trees from going to the landfill and becoming fire hazards.
According to the City, close to 155 tons of holiday trees — roughly 10,000 trees — are recycled into landscaping mulch in Long Beach each year.
Holiday decorations are on display in the Grand Hall of the Aquarium of the Pacific, including a Menorah, a Kwanzaa Kinara, and a Christmas Tree. (Richard H. Grant | Signal Tribune)
