General manager Lawrence Frank reinforced the team’s confidence in Lue moving forward and being able to turn the Clippers’ season around during a press conference with reporters via Zoom on Wednesday.
“I think Ty’s one of the best coaches in the NBA,” Frank said. “When you’re 5-16, we all share in the responsibility… We have great faith in T-Lue, and he has proven it [over the years]. I think he’s one of the best coaches in this league.”
It is not the first time that the Clippers have made an obscure move that involved moving on from a former or current franchise player. In 2017, Blake Griffin signed a five-year contract extension to stay with the Clippers. A few months later, around the trade deadline, much to Griffin’s surprise, he found out on Twitter that he had been traded to the Detroit Pistons.
The question remains, though, how the end of Chris Paul’s NBA career will play out.
