BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A Bakersfield man, who was driving a Freightliner box truck, was arrested for allegedly rear-ending a car, killing the driver in Paso Robles early Thursday morning.

The Paso Robles Police Department said on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at about 5:30 a.m., officers and paramedics were called to a crash at the intersection of Golden Hill Road and Highway 46.

Police said the vehicles involved were a four-door Lexus and a 2017 Freightliner box truck.

The driver of the Lexus, identified as a 63-year-old Paso Robles man, had been stopped at a red light on westbound Highway 46 at Golden Hill Road.

According to police, the Freightliner, also traveling westbound, approached the intersection and failed to slow down, hitting the Lexus from behind.

The impact killed the driver of the Lexus.

Paso Robles police said the Freightliner’s driver, identified as 25-year-old Gean Marco HuamanCastro of Bakersfield, was arrested for vehicular manslaughter. HuamanCastro was later booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Police said at this time, drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.
